The Golden Cup award recognizes excellence in brewed coffee. It is awarded annually to retailers and restaurants whose specialty coffee is properly ground and brewed.
To be eligible for the award, the retailer must prepare its coffee according to the SCAA's precise brewing standards.The standards are available in the SCAA Online Library (keywords: golden cup standards). Retailers who apply for the Golden Cup award must submit a sample of their water and their brewed coffee for laboratory analysis.

Judging Criteria
Much of the judging takes place in our laboratory. We chemically analyze the samples submitted by each entrant to ascertain the amount of minerals in the water, as well as the ratio of water to coffee. Only samples found to be within the SCAA's prescribed limits qualify for the Golden Cup award.

How to Apply

Download the Golden Cup Application and Evaluation Form from the SCAA Online Library (keyword: golden cup award) or email us to request an application and lab kit. You can also call (562) 624-4100 or fax (562) 624-4101.

Complete the application and fill the lab kit sample bottles with brewed coffee and water from your brewing machine. An SCAA Certified Brewing Technician (CBT) must sign the completed application. For a listing of CBTs near you, email us or phone/fax us at (562) 624-4100 or fax (562) 624-4101.

Return the application and samples to the SCAA along with your $35.00 application fee.

Certificate & Plaque
Each winner will receive a Certificate of Coffee Brewing Excellence, including the name of the establishment, the “Brewmaster" (the individual responsible for maintaining the coffee program standards in the operation) and the certifying organization (if applicable).
Winners will also be able to purchase a 16" x 12" wall plaque engraved with the establishment's name and the SCAA seal. The total cost, including shipping, of the Golden Cup Award Plaque is $74.95 for U.S. orders, $84.95 for International Orders.
